I am a die hard, trash talking, completely biased Patriots fan - so I am in pain right now. I am fine with admitting that the Colts are a better team, have better talent, were mostly healthy, and were at home.... so the Pats should have lost... but not after a 21-3 lead (that should have been 28-3 if not for dumb penalties).
My boys were completely spent after the San Diego game and the flu bug that ran rampant. We were so devastated, and I thought Belichick was going to suit up and run out there.
Even after the incredible collaspe (Indy comeback), I still thought Brady was going to pull it out with the ball past midfield and 24 seconds left. I still am in denial, and think he did pull it out.
I went to work today, and every gave me their condelences. I was in shock that there was no trash, as just about everybody said "that was best game I can remember".
So this got me thinking of the most sports I have suffered over the years. This was bad and belongs in my top 5:
5) 1997 Super Bowl I thought My Pats could beat the Pack... Why did we have to kick to Desmond Howard???
4) 1985 NBA Finals - hook shot by Magic My Celtics had the greatest starting five I'll ever see, and had beat the Lakers the year before. This Larry Bird prime, and boy did I hate Magic.
3) 2007 AFC Chamionship (last night) I'll be in denial until the Super Bowl.
2) Game 6 1986 World Series - Buckner Game Memo to John McNamara, there is a concept of a defensive replacement...
1) THE Aaron Boone home run. Nothing will ever beat this one... This was the ultimate kick to the nuts game.I was in a room full of Yankee fans, and it was the longest walk home of my life.
We had the best pitcher of my generation (Pedro) with a 2 run lead, Timlin and Williamson were pitching out of their minds and ready in the pen, and David Ortiz had just teed off for a moonshot homer off David Wells.
My Friend Kim was there for her 30th birthday, another NY'er Red Sox fan and another HUGE jinx when she goes in person. Needless to say, I have implored her husband to officially instituted a ban for her to go to any big game - and then they won the World Series the following year.
